Double degree program with the French university Chimie ParisTech

Classes are taught by leading scientists from Russia, Germany and France

The program includes the basic theoretical and practical problems of chemistry, biology, biomaterials science, pharmaceutics, immunology, biochemistry and other related fields. The methods of laboratory research used in modern biotechnology and pharmaceutical development are studied also.

Master's students acquire the necessary skills for analytical and research work in the field of biomedicine. Graduates of the program meet modern requirements for specialists in the field of biomedical research.
PROGRAM CHARACTERISTICS
The interdisciplinary nature of the Master's program allows training people who have different basic education (bachelor's or specialist): biology, chemistry, chemical technology, materials science, biotechnology, biochemistry, etc.
Each student will be able to build his/her own educational trajectory with the help of optional subjects.
Research work can be carried out in the laboratories of Research Institute of TSU: Research Institute of Biology and Biophysics, Laboratory of Physicochemical Methods of Analysis, as well as Tomsk Medical Research Center (TMMC), including Research Institute of Oncology and Research Institute of Cardiology.
The program collaborates with partner institutions abroad. During the educational process students of the program have an opportunity to attend lectures of invited foreign lecturers within the framework of intensive courses.
Laboratory and practical classes on modern equipment allow to master research methods as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunohistochemistry (IHC), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and others.

Our program prepares specialists who are able to engage in research activities in the following topical areas

Ultra-early diagnosis and therapy of cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases

Development of synthetic biology (CRISPR-Cas genome editing, chimeric antigenic receptors)

Development and testing of in vitro and in vivo diagnostic systems

Personalized targeted bioimmunotherapy taking into account the peculiarities of immune response of a particular patient

Intelligent analysis of big databases

The research activities of the program are divided into 4 blocks:

Block was established on the basis of the institutes of the National Research Institute of TSU and the Laboratory of Translational Cellular and Molecular Biomedicine.

The aim is to conduct fundamental research at the cellular and molecular levels in order to establish the mechanisms of pathological processes and develop innovative approaches for diagnosis and therapy.

Scientific research is related to the creation of model cell systems for transfection and viral vectors, purification of recombinant proteins from bacteria and yeast, and cloning of genetic constructs.

Research is carried out using chromatography, mass spectrometry, protein purification systems, and confocal microscopy technologies.
Organized in the Department of Polymers and Monomers of the Laboratory of Catalytic Research of the National Research Tomsk State University.

Objectives of the block:
1) To develop innovative polymeric biodegradable compounds to modify the surface of implants
2) To provide immunocorrective and tolerant properties of coatings
3) To improve implant engraftment; to optimize the reactions of the human immune system
4) To increase the degree of suppression of undesirable reactions, both chronic inflammation and fibrosis.

The results of fundamental developments will be used to the solution of specific clinical problems in the treatment of patients.
Organized on the basis of the Research Institute of Oncology of FGBNU «Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences».

It provides fundamental, translational and clinical research in the field of cellular-molecular and immunopathological mechanisms of origin and development of the most dangerous oncological diseases of the larynx, breast, lung, stomach and intestine. The development of highly sensitive methods for early diagnosis of immunopathologies leading to cancer is underway.

A promising task is the identification of molecular mechanisms of resistance to antitumor therapy and the introduction of innovative therapeutic approaches using advances in immunology.
Established on the basis of the Research Institute of Cardiology of the Tomsk National Research Medical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Organizes research on the complex study of cellular-molecular and immunopathological mechanisms of development and progression of cardiovascular diseases (myocarditis of infectious and non-infectious nature, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, heart failure).

On the basis of multiplex quantitative, qualitative and functional characterization of immune cell subpopulations, as well as the study of the mechanism of interaction between immune cells and endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes and myofibroblasts, the mechanisms of pathophysiological processes in the heart and vessels will be investigated, and new approaches to early disease diagnosis and personalized treatment methods will be developed.

CAREER, EMPLOYMENT

Graduates of the program can work:
1) In the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries;
2) In research and analytical centers (including Research Institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences);
3) In organizations of higher education;
4) As well as study in postgraduate programs in Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences and continue academic research activities.

Specialization in specific areas of knowledge allows program graduates to find themselves in fields not directly related to biomedicine. For example, specializing in analytical chemistry, organic synthesis, or petrochemistry and PMC chemistry, it is possible to find employment in the following companies:

  • «TomskNeft» – an oil and gas production company in the Tomsk Region and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District;

  • Engineering Chemical Technology Center together with its partners (SibGMU, TSU laboratories) helps companies to solve any problems of pharmaceutical production from development of synthesis methods, analysis of substances and finished dosage form, their validation, development of drug production technologies, quality control to promotion and distribution.
